ESMA Marks 24′ Edition of Green Ghana Day

In an effort to combat the effects of climate change, the Ejura Sekyedumase Municipality marked this year’s Green Ghana Day on Friday, June 7, 2024, under the theme “Growing for a Greener Tomorrow.” The initiative, which began in 2021 with the goal of planting a million tree seedlings annually, has seen varying degrees of success.

The event, held at Ejuraman Anglican Senior High School, was attended by members of the Christian Council, the Traditional Council, various Heads of the Security Services, Heads of Departments and Units, students and teachers of the Senior High School, and the Forestry Commission Deputy District Manager, Mr. George Yeboah, who served as the special guest.

The Municipal Coordinating Director, Mrs. Louisa Benon, in her speech, urged community members to join hands in supporting the initiative. She stated that climate change remains a great threat to all and highlighted the importance of protecting our natural resources across all sectors.

She further elaborated on the initiative’s potential to enhance economic opportunities, preserve biodiversity, mitigate the threat of bush-fires and carbon emissions, thereby safeguarding the environment for future generations and creating a healthier ecosystem for all.

Mr. George Yeboah, the Deputy District Manager (Forestry), reiterated the need to plant more trees to save the environment from the adverse impacts of climate change and to support the nation’s aggressive drive for afforestation and reforestation for a sustainable environment and social development.

The Municipal Coordinating Director, Mrs. Benon, took the opportunity to appreciate and thank everyone who contributed to the success of the Green Ghana Initiative and for honoring her invitation to the program.

The Coordinating Director led attendees, students, and teachers in planting trees at Ejuraman Anglican Senior High School, Ejura Divisional Command Center, Ejura Government Hospital, and Ejura Agric College. Other community members took seedlings to plant in their homes and other locations.
