Commissioning of Renovated Public Toilet Facilities Across the Municipality

On 8th March 2025, the Honorable Member of Parliament had the honour of joining the industrious Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Rafiu Adam Seidu, to commission a number of public toilet facilities that had previously become non-functional due to their severely deteriorated state. Through targeted rehabilitation efforts, these facilities have now been restored to full operational capacity and are ready to serve the needs of the people.
The renovated facilities were commissioned in the communities of:
- Kasei Nkwanta
- Hiawoanwu
- Bonyon
- Aframso
- Nokwareasa
These locations were carefully selected based on urgent sanitation needs and the previous condition of the facilities, which had posed challenges to residents and contributed to poor hygiene practices.

The rehabilitation and commissioning of these facilities therefore represent a deliberate and strategic intervention aimed at strengthening sanitary conditions across the Municipality. By restoring these essential amenities, the Assembly is actively addressing critical public health concerns while improving the overall quality of life for residents.
During the commissioning, both the Honorable Member of Parliament and the Municipal Chief Executive emphasized the importance of proper maintenance and community ownership of the renovated facilities. They urged residents and local leaders to cultivate a strong sense of responsibility toward the upkeep of the toilets to ensure their longevity and continuous functionality.

The Environmental Health Unit of the Assembly played a critical role in the successful execution and sustainability of this initiative. The Unit provided technical guidance during the rehabilitation process to ensure that the facilities meet approved public health and sanitation standards.
In addition, the Environmental Health Officers are responsible for:
- Conducting regular inspections and monitoring of the facilities
- Enforcing sanitation regulations and standards
- Providing hygiene education and sensitization within the beneficiary communities
- Supervising facility management arrangements to ensure cleanliness and proper usage
Through these efforts, the Environmental Health Unit ensures that the renovated facilities remain hygienic, safe, and fit for purpose, thereby preventing disease outbreaks and promoting public health.
Beyond immediate health benefits, the initiative contributes to the creation of cleaner and more organized communities. It also supports ongoing efforts to promote behavioral change in sanitation practices, ensuring that residents have access to safe, hygienic, and dignified places of convenience.

The commissioning of these facilities further demonstrates a shared vision between local leadership and stakeholders to build resilient communities where public health is protected, environmental standards are upheld, and dignity is preserved for all.
In conclusion, this initiative represents more than the restoration of infrastructure—it is a reaffirmation of the Municipality’s dedication to creating cleaner, healthier, and more livable communities. Through continued investment in sanitation and other essential services, the Ejura Sekyedumase Municipality remains firmly on the path toward inclusive and sustainable development.
