ESMA Provides Income Generating and Other Supports to PWDs
The Ejura Sekyedumase Municipal Assembly today, 5th March 2024 distributed income generating items to People Living with Disability at the forecourt of the Assembly.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Dr. Kingsley Osei in his address commended the NPP Government, led by H.E Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo for the passion they have for People living with Disability (PWD); he said they are so much concern about the wellbeing of PWDs and in view of that, they want them to enjoy life to the fullest like any other citizen.
Hon. Dr. Kingsley Osei said four hundred and twenty (420) PWDs in the Municipality had been supported in diverse ways. He added that beginning of this year, this is the first tranche to PWDs and he believes more will follow before the year ends. He encouraged the beneficiaries to give NPP Government their vote in the December election to enable them carry on with their good work.
He urged them to take very good care of the items they receive so as to be fruitful to them and their family. He added that monitoring team will be visiting them occasionally to see how they are felling with the support granted them.
According to the Head of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, Abdallah Dasmanu, 3% of the Common Fund was allocated for PWDs and is distributed based on individual’s preference. He cited that some were income generating items, others were for investment and the rest were for educational support.
Mr. Abdallah said this tranche of distribution was unique as the Assembly was providing support to the family of a Social intervention client who passed on after going through surgery and suffered complications.
He added that twenty (20) people benefited from the items distributed, it included Chest freezers, Fertilizers and spraying machine, livestock, fufu pounding machines and sewing machine.
The President of the Municipal PWDs Association, Hon. Ayisha Mohammed on behalf of the beneficiaries rendered an uncommon appreciation to the government and the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Dr. Kingsley Osei for channeling the items to their benefits with a promise of taking very good care of them as advised by the Municipal Chief Executive.
