Disbursement of Items and Funds to 83 PWD Beneficiaries

As part of efforts of the government to empower persons with disabilities and also ensure effective utilization of the PWD fund, the social welfare department of the Assembly has procured and disbursed items and cash to 83 people with disabilities in the municipality. The event was held on the 27th of June 2018.

The aim of this activity as stated earlier, is to empower Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the municipality to help them to undertake economic ventures that would sustain their daily lives.
Items procured include

Deep Freezers, Sewing Machines, Fertilizers, Fufu pounding Machines, Plastic Chairs, Bags of Rice and Maize, Popcorn makers, Wheelchairs, Salon Stand Hair Dryer Machines, Roofing Sheets, Groceries and many other items.

The Municipal Chief Executive (M.C.E), Hon. Alhaji Mohammed Salisu Bamba in his address at the forecourt entreated the beneficiaries to make good use of the items in order to make money in their ventures to help uplift their standard of living and welfare and to also use the funds for their intended purpose. He also cautioned them against the thought of selling the items.

He noted that the 83 beneficiaries form part of the first batch out of 600 persons who applied to assembly for support to embark on various ventures, adding that the idea is to empower them economically to get them out of the streets begging for alms.

The M.C.E said that items such as sewing machines, deep freezer, rice and many more were bought upon their individual request to enable them start business.

He further called on persons with disabilities who have not yet registered with the assembly to do so in order to also benefit from the funds.

The beneficiaries expressed their profound gratitude to the assembly for considering them and also promised to make good use of the funds and items in ways that would benefit them.
