Reconstruction of Ejura Water System

The vision of providing portable and safe water to the people of the Municipality will very soon see the light of day. This declaration was made by the Municipal Chief Executive of Ejura Sekyedumase, Hon. Dr. Kingsley Osei at a ceremony on Wednesday; 17th August 2022.

In his address, Hon. Dr. Kingsley Osei noted that as the saying goes that “Water is life”, the Assembly and for that matter the Government could not have bettered the lives of the people of Ejura without looking at the water situation in the town hence the reconstruction of the Water System to alleviate the water problems of the town.
According to Dr. Osei, the Ejura water project was started in the year 2000 and handed over to the Assembly in 2001 for management. The facility which had a fifteen (15) year life span began having major technical challenges in 2017 when three (3) of the nine (9) feeder bore holes started malfunctioning.

The Ejura Water supply which is a community-initiated project is being financed by 5% Community contributions , another 5% by the Municipal Assembly (Government of Ghana) with the German Government providing the remaining 90% of the project cost through KFW (German Bank of Reconstruction).
Hon. Dr. Osei added that by way of expansion on the old system, 6km of pipelines would be added to the 25km already in existence that among others supplied water to the Ejura Agric College which has a 43cubic meter elevated steel tank and the Ejura Government Hospital with its 45 cubic meter elevated steel tank. He assured of a more frequent and reliable flow of water after the reconstruction.

He pledged the utmost support of Nananom for the stay and work of the contractors. He also urged the Contractors to use the local labourers and artisans to help reduce unemployment in the area.

The boreholes would be run by high capacity, durable and innovative Hybrid pumps to assure reliable supply of water. He ended his address by assuring the people of Ejura that the reconstruction is expected to be completed in 9 months time.
